                                   <div  class=\"h2\" ><p>In response to the unique situation facing the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe during the renovation of its main building, comic artist Mia Oberl\u00e4nder (born 1995) is creating a graphic novel that focuses on people.<\/p>\n<\/div>                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-8 col-sm-offset-2\">\n                <div class=\"box\">\n                    <div class=\"copy editor\"><p>Following the successful launch of the <em>Mind the Gap<\/em> exhibition series with a presentation of large-format architectural photographs by Niklas Goldbach, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe is now taking a completely different approach with the artist Mia Oberl\u00e4nder. Through dialogues with the Kunsthalle\u2019s staff and visits to the museum\u2019s various venues\u2014some of which are currently undergoing renovation\u2014the artist engages with the on-site atmosphere and explores the emotional impact of the collection\u2019s relocation and refurbishment.<\/p>\n<p>Perceived by many \u2013 both staff and visitors \u2013 as a form of uprooting, these changes also offer great potential: the opportunity to find one\u2019s place in a new context. Mia Oberl\u00e4nder explores how the perception of the artworks and the way they are engaged with are changing. What it is like for staff to give guided tours of historical works in the unfamiliar halls of the ZKM Hall Building, where old masters\u2019 paintings are surrounded by the soundscape of media art, where the reverberation of a roaring computer narrative echoes around D\u00fcrer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunsthalle-karlsruhe.de\/en\/kunstwerk\/christ-as-the-man-of-sorrows\/\"><em>Schmerzensmann<\/em><\/a>. This charged repositioning holds exciting narratives for a contemporary visual history, situated between the reality of the museum in transition and the fiction of the comic artist. This could take the form of a narrative tour of the collection in which people, works and buildings come into contact on different levels \u2013 emotionally, art-historically and artistically, between reality and fiction.<\/p>\n<p>Mia Oberl\u00e4nder (born in Ulm in 1995) has lived in Hamburg since 2015. In 2019, she completed a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. She went on to study for a Master\u2019s degree in Graphic Narrative. In 2021, she was awarded the Berthold Leibinger Foundation\u2019s Comic Book Prize and a Youth Literature Prize in the \u2018New Talents\u2019 category for her bachelor\u2019s thesis, <em>Anna<\/em>. The volume was published in the same year by the Swiss publisher Edition Moderne and has since been translated into five other languages.
