Description

These atmosphere-rich depictions, in which the simplest things seem to be filled with mysterious life, demonstrate the artist’s mastery in a most beautiful way. With a sure brush, the colours are partly in thin, watery layers, partly almost dry and crusty, and thus capture the different surfaces.

Already celebrated by his contemporaries as a “great magician”, Jean Simeon Chardin is still considered today as one of the outstanding French painters of the 18th century.
