Description

Rainy weather in Rouen — inspiring for the Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. Beneath the lowering clouds in many shades of grey, the view opens up: not just to the wide river with its expansive bridges and the landscape of houses lining it, but also to an equally broad spectrum of colours. In contrast to the surrounding grey, these shine all the more brightly — the carts, the buildings in the foreground, the ships at the quayside. The Seine is agitated and unsettled by wind and weather. Under the bridge, its arches are reflected in iridescent shades of green.
