Drawing Lab

An invitation to creative experimentation

Kurz zusammengefasst

The Drawing Lab opens up unique spaces for artistic research, experimentation, and discovery.

Several coloured pencils in shades of orange and red are lying on a sheet of paper.

A faint scratching of pencil on paper, the occasional rustle, then silence again. Anyone stepping into the spaces of the Junge Kunsthalle enters not a traditional exhibition, but an experimental laboratory of lines, surfaces, and open-ended questions.

Children, teenagers, and adults are invited to engage actively at various stations using simple materials such as paper, pencils, or charcoal, creating their own artworks to be displayed on a gallery wall or exchanged with others. Each station offers a distinct approach to drawing and creative expression: sometimes engaging all the senses, sometimes encouraging artistic inquiry, sometimes working with light and shadow. Visitors can explore how space can be created on a flat surface, how sounds can be translated into lines, or what role chance plays in the creative process. Drawing becomes an experience that is both sensory and exploratory, a means of perception and understanding.

Unterschiedliches Zeichenmaterial und Papier liegt ausgebreitet auf einem Tisch.

The exhibition runs alongside the special exhibition Nanne Meyer. Purposeful Wandering in the Orangerie and builds on its investigative approach. With this interactive project, the Junge Kunsthalle continues to define itself as a place for engaging with art—not so much as a conventional exhibition venue, but as a workshop where creative processes take center stage.
