A critical engagement with discrimination

A critical engagement with discrimination acknowledges that discrimination is an inherent aspect of society and its norms, which includes both conscious and unconscious biases. It emphasizes that actions always occur in the context of structural discrimination, distinguishing it from approaches that argue that merely advocating for equality makes one non-racist. People who are privileged must recognize how their own unconscious behavior contributes to the exclusion of those experiencing discrimination. The 2006 General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) aims to address structural and individual discrimination based on origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, and disability through law.
