Eurocentrism

Eurocentrism describes attitudes and behaviors, which posits Europe as the epicenter of thought and action, of civilization and modernity. It often serves as a benchmark against which other countries and cultures are compared in a pejorative manner. Established by colonial powers, this historical order has perpetuated a global power imbalance since the Renaissance, which manifests as oppression, one-sided capitalist expansion, and the exploitation of non-European countries, their people and resources. This violent creation of supremacy continues to manifest in the present day through the perpetuation of unequal trade relations and the presence of racist thought patterns and attitudes.
