social construction
A social construction is a concept or notion that is created by people in a society, is broadly accepted and regarded as self-evident, even though it has no natural basis. It is established through shared beliefs, interactions, and social processes. Differences between people are constantly redefined through daily process of placing ourselves and others into categories. These processes of categorization serve to reduce complexity. Simultaneously, these processes produce a basis for stereotyping, prejudice, and unequal treatment.
